The Godsend (1980) - Review

The Godsend (1980).  Starring Malcolm Stoddard, Cyd Hayman and Angela Pleasence.

One star out of four.

This is an adaptation of a novel.  I've never read it.  I don't even know how popular it was or if some producer at Canon thought this would be a big hit, so he optioned the book.  What I do know is this movie is boring as fuck.  Perhaps the book is much better, as everyone says. I highly doubt it.

The jist of the film is that a unknown woman (Pleasence) shows up at the home of a British couple with five kids.   Now this family is well established from the first ten minutes or so.  But my god, are these people dry.  Anyway,  the stranger is pregnant and at full-term.  She has the baby in the house, but before the local doctor can make a house call, she splits.  Because this couple believes you can never have enough children, they take the female baby in as one of their own.

Cut to a few years later, the baby is now a weird female albino toddler.   And one by one, the other children begin to die off.  The husband, Alan, begins to suspect it has something to do with and he takes his sweet ass time coming to this conclusion.  The wife, Kate, scoffs and becomes overly protective of the demon cuckoo child (a description made by Alan).  This all leads to the anti-climatic conclusion of the movie that has you realizing you've wasted ninety minutes of your life.

This movie gets one star for featuring Angela Pleasence, the daughter of Donald Pleasence.  Dreadful flick, avoid unless you're a masochist or having problems with insomnia.
